Be careful who you tell your dreams to
The story of Joseph in the bible shows us how people react when they hear about your dreams the minute you decide to tell them. I have decided to use this story of Joseph to bring about the real meaning of what this book is about. This also brings about the reality of perception that even the bible points out to show us that our most enemies are the members of our families. This has happened many times in most cases when people started to take decisions about their dream careers where members of the family started to divert them towards what they think is good for them. But in this case of Joseph it is the worst case scenario where his brothers were totally envious of him to the point that they even contemplated to kill him. If it was not for his brother Reuben he would have been a dead man before his dream came to reality.
Joseph, the son of Jacob whose sons who were
also Joseph's siblings decided to act before hand to hinder the outcomes of the
dream he had before it even came to its fulfilment. They were driven by the
thought that should Joseph’s dream came to reality they would be obliged to
treat him as their senior even though he was their youngest brother, their
father’s last born. There could be some people in this case who would have said”,
it’s just a dream not a reality. But in Joseph's case his brothers were bothered
by the fact that the dream could be fulfilled. This means that, in this world
there are two kinds of people who receive our dreams. There are those who say
it is just a dream and those who are afraid that the dream might be fulfilled. But
the amusing thing is how both these people react when the dream become
fulfilled. Both of them want to be there to witness the fulfilment of the
dream. Some of them wouldn’t even hesitate to make sure that their names show
the appearance in the mentioning of the dream come true period. They would not
seem to bother to climb while the cart us moving as long as they will go away
with a big chunk of credit that they did not even toiled for. Even it means
they will take all the glory to themselves, forgetting the fact that God said
He will not give the glory to the other. When fate decided it us your time to
shine , you will shine anyway. Like in the case of Joseph. Although his
brothers decided to sell him to the strangers as a slave to stop the fulfilment
of his dream, this did not stop Joseph to become who he was meant to become. After
they sold him he landed in the hands of Pharaoh who made him a governor because
he managed to interpret a dream which other people in the highest positions in
Egypt could not interpret. You see? Joseph was elevated by the Pharaoh's dream
so that his dream may be fulfilled.
Now, Joseph's mistake was to tell his dream to
wrong people at the wrong time. The timing was all wrong because he was not his
siblings' s best friend at that time for he was their father' s favourite son who
he birthed at an old age. Jacob, his father even made him a special garment out
of expensive cloth which was later dipped in blood when his brothers decided to
sell him. This was made with the intention to trick their father into believing
that Joseph was killed by wild animals while tending the sheep in the veldt. The
cloak was delivered with the bad news that Joseph, the favourites son of Jacob
was devoured by animals and the blooded cloak was an evidence of such tragedy. I
can imagine how Jacob cried himself to sleep when he received the news. I guess
it did not bother them at all to see their father wailing as long as Joseph'
dream according to them was not going to be fulfilled. Joseph was most loved
because he was the last born but this did not mean anything to his brothers. What
rubbed salt to their wounds of not being the favourites was the dream that
Joseph told them. He told them that he saw himself as a moon amongst the eleven
stars who bowed before the moon.
Now there comes a problem. He is going to be a great moon amongst the stars. This piece of news did not sit well with his brothers. They saw a problem forth coming and decided to stop it before it came to pass. One thing they did not realise is that in realms of the spirit the dream was already fulfilled. This is always the case with dreams. They are produced in the spiritual realm in a manner that the enemies can think that they are not real. Once the reality strikes the animosity starts.
Even though the outcomes of Joseph' s dream did not start well. It first had him landed in jail. Hiss boss’s wife could not resist him because he was carrying a big dream. She seduced him and when he refused to fall into the trap, she had him arrested by her furious husband because she accused him of making sexual advances towards her although it was her who initiated the deed. Unfortunately for Joseph, it was her word against his. He was sent to jail for the sin he did not commit.
Once again a dream came to Pharaoh while he was sleeping. He had trusted team of wise men and fortune tellers who were expected to interpret his dream as they usually did. They could have interpreted the dream right there and then but it was hidden from the them. That is the irony of the dreams. Sometimes they come in a different angle we while their meaning says something else. In this case of Pharaoh it came to save Joseph from jail while it was meant to warn Pharaoh of the coming wrath of God. God used Joseph who was in jail to interpret a dream for a free man. How ironic dreams can be sometimes.
The man who was with Joseph in the cell asked him for a favour. He said” remember me when things go well for you and mention my name to Pharaoh. This man was the one who recommended Joseph to Pharaoh. He sent a word to Pharaoh and Joseph was summoned immediately and brought before Pharaoh to help fathom the mystery that was before Pharaoh. and that was the beginning of the journey of the materialization of the dream. Even his tormentors (his brothers) benefited from his dream as they became part his journey to the promise land which was their grandfather's dream. this means that our dreams come true when there are people who are there to push us to the right direction.
